Weather Watchers, The
- Synopsis
- Methods of observing the weather. Difficulties of obtaining an adequate data coverage of the globe by means of conventional surface and upper-air observations are pointed out. Possibilities of using balloons are examined; the use of aircraft for studying hurricanes, kites for investigating processes inside clouds, and time-lapse photography for revealing patterns of cloud development are considered. Shows dishpan simulations of large-scale circulations and laboratory investigations of the role of electrification in precipitation formation. Ends with a brief look at weather modification.
