Washing Machine / Vacuum Cleaner
- Synopsis
- Tim Hunkin humorously explains the workings of some familiar domestic machines. His technique is to present the scientific principles and show how the machines evolved by using demonstrations and animated cartoon sequences.
1: Looks at the components of washing machines; solenoid, pump and motors. Asks how soap gets into the was drum, what stops the machine overflowing, why automatic washing machines contain lumps of concrete.
2: Discusses why a civil engineer who designed fairground rides invented the vacuum cleaner, why it uses less power when block up, and why a proportion of the collected dust blows out. - Series
