Black Sea, The: Death or Reprieve?
- Synopsis
- The Black Sea, one of the world’s most polluted marine environments, has become a toxic soup with discharges from industry and agriculture via the rivers of centrl and eastern Europe. The sea’s biological resources and its economic value to those living along its shores have been wiped out in the last 20-30 years. In response, the countries of the region have set up the Black Sea Environment Programme which, by working at both international and national levels, has initiated new national parks and sustainable fish farms as well as a common legal framework for member nations.
