Using Steronets in Geology
- Alternative title
- Sterographic Projections
- Synopsis
- A CAL module on the underlying principle of the stereographic projection and why it is used in different branches of geology. Uses a step-by-step approach to explain the way stereograms are constructed and the mechanics of plotting different types of data. Deals with the interpretation of stereograpms in crystallography and structural geology, and shows common applications in these areas. For crystallograpy, considers face normals and zones; for structural geology, conventions used to plot linear data, planar data, poles to planar data and pitching lines. Approximately 4 hours of teaching material, intended to complement lectures and tutorials.
