Understanding and Handling Aggression
- Synopsis
- An aggressive patient wants to discharge himself from hospital. Professor Brown presents two role-plays, one in which the social worker mishandles the interaction and gets into a will-struggle with the patient, and the second in which the social worker encourages the patient to talk about his real worries and fears and explores the reality that is creating the aggressive response. In a third role-play interaction a youngster engages in silent aggression. Throughout the videotape the viewer is invited to discuss examples of practice and to use the set of guidelines provided to arrive at effective ways of handling difficult situations.
