Tissue Respiration
- Synopsis
- Sources of energy such as mitosis and meiosis (cell division), e.g. embryology of the newt. These processes require a supply of energy which is controlled and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is introduced as the energy currency. The three stages involved (Kreb’s glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and respiratory chain) are shown diagrammatically and include all the chemical processes involved, the devices used (electron carriers ATP and ADP) and types of reactions occurring (cyclic and non-cyclic phosphorylation). Concludes with summaries of the three stages emphasising that ATP is the most important factor.
