This is the Way we Go to School
- Synopsis
- Records a four-year study conducted by the High/Scope Educational Research Foundation to help disadvantaged pre-school and kindergarten children. Three separate models are presented. The first is based on direct teaching techniques devised by Carl Bereiter and Siegfried Engelmann using drill techniques and instructional material developed by them at the University of Illinois. The unit-based model focuses on the development of the ‘whole child’, emphasising social and emotional growth. The cognitive model, influenced by Piaget’s work, stresses active experience on the part of the child preparing him for further learning.
