Synopsis
A conversation with Jean Gough (counsellor) and Professor Malcolm Brown. Covers the main characteristics of depression, the signs and symptoms, changed circumstances and life’s crisis points which may lead to depression, the cumulative aspects of depression, the relationship between sadness and anger. Discusses differences between ‘feeling low’ and depression that needs help, danger points, depression and suicide, the issues of hospitalisation, the role of the family and the use of community resources, how the depressed person can be helped, and practical guidelines for the helping person.
