Take the Money and Run
- Synopsis
- Examines televison’s role in sport sponsorship. In the summer of 1985 a worldwide audience of 100 million people watched the ‘grudge’ match between Zola Budd and Mary Decker for which Zola Budd (the loser) was paid £90,000. Focuses on the complex collaboration between London Weekend Television, sponsors Peugot Talbot and British athletics. Why was the Budd/Decker race staged? Who benefited and how did television put together the story for a worldwide audience?
