Supersense (6 Parts)
- Synopsis
- Series on animal perception, showing the world from the animal’s angle.
1: Examines and experiences the senses animals posess but people do not. A shark, for example, has an electronic sense, that enables it to home in on the body electricity of its prey.
2: Discovering the world through animal eyes: it is filled with bizarre hues, invisible colours and strange patterns. Flying with a vulture as it uses magnified vision, hunting with a lion as it eyes up a wildebeest, and finding a fish that simultaneously sees above and below water.
3: Demonstrates how different some animals’ sense of hearing is to our own: spiders can home in on the wing beats of their prey; elephants conversations are pitched below human hearing thresholds and whales call across oceans.
4: How for many animals, smell is the most important sense. Certain birds such as petrels, use smell rather than sight to hunt for fish in the open sea.
5: Shows that every animal’s perception of time is different, and this is related to heart rate. The result is that a shrew lives its life about 30 times faster than an elephant.
6: Shows how the mind of the animal influences its own unique view of the world. - Language
