Sudden Departure

Synopsis
Made at a children’s hospital in Montreal, the film deals with the emotional problems of small children who go into hospital. The first part develops the argument that sudden separation from mother is a traumatic experience for any child who has not yet gained the independence that comes with mobility. Cases of children in hospital are examined to illustrate the three phases of response to separation. A psychiatrist pleads for the participation of mothers in the care of their children in hospital.*
