Synopsis
Traces the history of the construction of the Statue of Liberty and the evolution and meaning of the ideal of liberty which it represents. Follows sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi’s dream of a monument to liberty through its controversial construction to its dedication in New York Harbor in October 1886. Draws on archival material from over 50 museums and libraries world-wide.
