Synopsis
Introduces the various parts of an optical spectrometer: collimator, prism table and telescope. Discusses the use of each part, including ray diagrams of light passing through the instrument. Shows how determine the location of a refracted spectrum in the prism, with the adjustment for minimum deviation. Demonstrates Schuster’s method for focussing the collimator and telescope so that the light entering the prism is parallel.
