Social Evolution in Two Mexican Ant Species
- Synopsis
- Ponerine ant colonies are taken from their natural habitat and studied in the laboratory. They are individually marked and their behaviour and social organisation are studied. Shows the sociograms of ‘Odontomachus’ and ‘Neoponera’ in descriptive form based largely on these laboratory observations. Follows the behaviour of the workers and queens during reproduction and feeding and points out specific differences. The ants under study come from Selva Lacandona in Mexico.
