Skomer Island

Synopsis
Opens with the short ferry journey from the mainland to Skomer illustrating potential problems. A trip around the island is shown from the introductory talk given to all visitors by the warden, to the departure on the returning ferry at the end of the day. Sequences include brief looks at rock erosion, evidence of past farming, island vegetation and the resident bird population. One sequence shows a Manx shearwater and its chick being removed from a damaged underground nesting burrow. Recordings were made at the end of June and therefore only the vegetation and wildlife present at that time are seen.
