Sedation in the Standing Horse

Synopsis
Aims to help the practitioner understand the principles of sedation and the factors to be considered when selecting drugs, dosage and route of administration. Detailed discussion of the factors emphasise the need for quiet, correct choice of drug, dangers of accidental intracarotid injection, and problems in sedated horses (reaction to stimuli and ataxia). Part 2 describes the drugs themselves in detail and part 3 discusses the principles of neuroleptanalgesia and some of its applications.
