Beating the Morning Rush
- Synopsis
- A case study of transport planning in Milton Keynes, a rapidly changing modern British city. Shows how planners use sophisticated computer-based modelling techniques to calculate traffic flow on roads yet to be built in defining a specific problem; simplifying by choosing to include only the most salient features; systematicallly looking at just one starting point to one destination point; formulating the treatment as a mathematical model; using matrices and showing how the parameters needed for the model can be evaluated; validating the model. Considers how the initial model can be improved and discusses what accuracy is required of such a model. Looks at features of the model that made it specific to its original purpose and shows how it could be adapted to be used in other cities and town.

- NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
