Rheological Behaviour of Fluids

Synopsis
A number of experiments, such as suspensions and high polymer materials, demonstrate the non-Newtonian behaviour of some fluids. Except for materials that flow only at stresses above a critical value, the model of the ‘memory fluid’ (in which the stress is a nonlinear function of the history of the deformation gradient) appears adequate to describe these phenomena.
