Resemblances in Expressive Behaviour

Synopsis
Shows examples of mother-infant interaction in which particular modes of maternal behaviour have been repeatedly available to the infant’s experience during feeding. The typical interaction of each pair suggests that the expressive behaviour of the infant is derived, to an important extent, from the maternal behaviour to which he has become accustomed and to which he has accommodated. Each infant’s responses during his testing on the Gesell schedules are presented to call attention to aspects of his behavioural style which, even at one year, resemble those of his mother. Eleven mother-infant pairs are seen, most of them at six months and one year of age. A Penn State Media Sales film.
