Raulien’s District

Alternative title
Rauliens Revier
Synopsis
A humorous fly-on-the-wall documentary about a grass-roots policeman who enjoys, but does not exploit, his authority as an officer on the beat and prefers to build on the trust of ‘his’ people instead. Follows Hans Raulien on the beat in Duisburg-Bruckhausen in Germany’s Ruhr district, where around half of the population is unemployed and 65% are immigrants. Problems abound and he does what he can to solve them. The director used the ‘cinema direct’ method which resulted in exceptional spontaneity, but the original sound is sometimes difficult to understand.
