- Synopsis
- Explores the role of the fatwa in Islam in the wake of the Ayatollah Khomeini’s 1989 fatwa against author Salman Rushdie. Looks at the way in which varying cultural interpretations are influencing cultural and social development particularly in Egypt and Bangladesh. Also follows the plight of several people who have been forced into hiding because of fatwa and visits a fatwa centre in Cairo where Muslims go for advice and guidance from spiritual leaders.
