Portage: Early Education
- Synopsis
- Portage is an early home intervention teaching method for severely disabled pre-school children and infants. The method is a precision teaching programme operated through the disabled child’s parents who are guided closely by a family home visitor reporting to a multi-disciplinary professional support team. The method is distinctive in recognising the key educational role parents play and actively seeks to use parents’ expertise and intimate knowledge of a child. The video shows how the checklists used by the Portage home visitors break down skills into very small tasks for mother and child to achieve within a few days.
