- Synopsis
- An overview of Chinese medical care before 1976. Concentrates on rural China and demonstrates the effect of Mao Zedong’s June 1965 directive ‘in medical care put the emphasis on the countryside’. Attention is directed at family planning and the role of women in society. Emphasis is placed upon how the Chinese medical system uses and combines both Western and traditional medicine and there are shots of these techniques (acupuncture, the mixing of traditional herbs, etc.).
