People of Bacup, Manchester

Synopsis
The aim was to record certain leisure activities of the working people of Bacup, Lancashire, with a view to demonstrating how these are changing as the mills close down and other forms of economic life take over. Shows the men’s Natural History Society and the women’s Wednesday Darts Night. There are scenes of work in Sutton’s shoe factory and shots of Bacup itself. Also shows textile manufacture. This project was part of a 12-month period of anthropological fieldwork.
