Outsiders in
- Synopsis
- Within Europe there are many communities from the wider world who have been working hard to make a space for themselves to maintain their particular identity and at the same time to integrate into the social fabric of the host country. These groups are subject ot many pressures - from inside, from their own families as well as from the people around them, and from outside - from relations and governments in the countries they came from. In Great Britain, France and Germany shows the experience and effects of immigration by speaking to the immigrants themselves - Iranians, Algerians and Turks. Looks at their experience of immigration - their work, the rights they have or hoped to have, their hopes and dreams for their children, whether they wanted to stay or return to their home countries, what was their sense of identity - who did they see themselves as?

- NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
