An interactive tutorial which examines: the control of voluntary movement and the various causes of disorders of movement; the concept of balance of control between neuronal system in the central nervous system (CNS); the basis of the neuronal defect in Parkinson’s disease; dopaminergic transmission in the CNS; the various treatments for Parkinson’s disease; the actions, mechanisms of action and side effects of the drugs used to treat Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders; the relationship between Huntington’s chorea, Wilson’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Includes a glossary of drugs. Approximately 2 hours of teaching material.
