Microsurgical Model of Kidney Transplantation in the Rat, A

Synopsis
Experimental renal transplantation in the rat using conventional microsurgical vascular sutured anastomoses requires techniques which are difficult to learn, relatively slow, and often necessitate delayed contralateral nephrectomy. A medical team has developed the use of cuff techniques for vascular anastomoses which are reliable, safe and allow only short periods of warm ischaemia. They have never encountered any anastomotic leakage or thrombosis due to this technique and in the long term there is only minimal intimal proliferation at the anastomotic side. Demonstrates the donor and recipient operations.
