Examines the significance of Turner’s painting of a ship being towed to a place for breaking-up. Uses location footage on the Thames and engravings of the period to show how Turner transformed an everyday scene into visual poetry. Investigates the ship’s history, reputation and patriotic signifance and her meaning for Turner himself. Demonstrates Turnder’s fascination with water, light and weather, and his interest in modern technology, through the filming of original paintings and drawings.
