- Synopsis
- Discusses the difference between rotational and irrotational flow. A float moving with the current in a tank of water may or may not rotate. Three flows are demonstrated: the first two both involve water flowing around circular tanks. But one flow is rotational,the other not. A mathematical test for rotational flow is derived. It is simply the ‘curl’ of flow down a long straight channel. The mathematics say it should by rotational, and experimentation shows it to be so.
