Synopsis
1 (1944): Story of Tsar Ivan IV - Ivan the Terrible. Begins with his crowning as Tsar of Russia, follows his struggle to consolidate the Russian Empire, freeing it from Eastern domination, through his downfall, ending with his recall by the Russian people. Music by Sergei Prokofiev.
2: The Boyars’ Plot (1945): Einstein’s first use of colour film, used to enhance the continuing story of Ivan the Terrible of Russia and the murder plots against him. Music by Sergei Prokofiev. (The third and concluding part of the trilogy was never made due to Eisenstein’s death in 1948.)
