Into Care

Synopsis
Many handicapped children and adults will have had experience of care, and the quality of work of nurses and residential staff makes a vital contribution to their well-being. Part of their success or otherwise will be concerned with the extent to which staff can make satisfactory relationships with the families involved. Shows an admission to hospital involving the family of a mentally handicapped young man whose parents are in a crisis caused by a sudden bereavement. The role of the ‘receiving worker’ is examined. How does she cope? Rod Ballard replays the admission in order to make a comparison between the two interpretations of the role.
