International Conference in Distance Education
- Synopsis
- This video was produced to accompany a platform
presentation by the Open University’s Science Faculty at the International Conference on Distance Education, held at the Birmingham International Conference Centre in June 1995. The purpose of the presentation was to describe how the OU teaches science at a distance and the video consisted of a compilation of some of highlights of 25 years of science education broadcasting together with some specially shot material. One new sequence portrayed an OU student in her own home carrying out a sophisticated physics experiment involving a laser, and another showed three students and a tutor working together on a computer-based learning project. Other new material included a preview of a CD-ROM used on a biology course and a vox popof students’ attitudes and experiences. - Language

- NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
