Synopsis
Looks at output devices for computers, including visual display units, printers, and sound and speech outputs. Also shows haptic devices, dynamic data displays and virtual reality devices. Shows the BT Research Laboratories’ haptic mouse and 3D sound projects and research work on the new interface design. Covers: screen displays - cathode ray tube screen, flat screen, output of digital sound source, multimedia output; printers - laser printers and plotters; sound and speech output - text-based interface with speech synthesis and speech recognition, turning text into speech; dynamic data display and virtual reality - the Information Garden, 3D images, virtual reality headset, sound and vision, haptic output, touch mouse, future of computer output.
