Influence of Magnetic and Electric Fields on Atomic Spectra, The

Synopsis
The directional characteristics of atomic orbital is explained in terms of the interaction between the resultant orbital angular momentum (or magnetic moment) and an externally applied magnetic field. A series of new energy states is created in the presence of a magnetic or electric field, and the modified energy diagram used to interpret the spectra taken under these conditions.
