Images of the Soviet Union at War 1941-1945
- Synopsis
- Explores the role played by the British newsreels in creating and reflecting the growth of pro-Russian feeling in Britain during the second world war. When the Soviet Union was attacked by the Germans in June 1941, Britain and Russia found themselves allies against Nazism. Explores the handling of this new relationship and shows how no effort was spared by newsreels to praise the Russian resistance to Nazi Germany and emphasises Britain’s own response and identification with that resistance.
