Images of America 1937-1939
- Synopsis
- Illustrates the various ways in which British newsreels on the eve of World War 2 presented propaganda concerning the USA’s international role. Drawing on the archives of Gaumont British, British Movietone News and Pathé Gazwette, it shows how different themes - remembrance of World War 1, US military power, anglo-American connections, and President Franklin D Roosevelt - were exploited to convey an image that conflited with the reality of US isolationism. Using both short items and full newsreels, the film also demonstrates how montage techniques assisted the propaganda.
