Huis Clos

Synopsis
In Sartre’s play, known in English as ‘In Camera’ or ‘No Exit’, two women and one man are locked for ever in the atheist Sartre’s vision of hell, where they gradually reveal their crimes and understand their punishment. It may be seen ultimately as a cautionary tale bearing less on the beyond than a life on this earth and the nature of human freedom. The production in French, follows the original edition and has taken account of the 1954 French film and the 1964 BBC-TV production, neither of which follows the original exactly. Consequently this is the only readily available recorded performance and is primarily intended to help with the study of the text.
