This policy report sets out the government’s areas for action following a two year review of the media and telecommunications sectors. In brief the report says that the internet, other new technologies and the digital infrastructure upon which they depend, are vital for the British economy, which is already benefiting from the success of the digital sector. However, the needs of the consumer are paramount and the paper promises to put the necessary legislation in place to protect people from harmful content, unfair contracts and rising costs. There are also plans to change the law so that regulators can crack down on companies responsible for nuisance calls.
