NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Archives / Thomas McLurg Anderson collection

Description
The collection is held at reference HB94/12/1-31. The creator, Thomas McLurg Anderson (1899-1981, British physiotherapist) used 8mm cinefilm primarily to understand the causes of repetitive strain injuries and to teach physiotherapy. The industrial films were shot in foundries, power stations and ICI factories primarily. They feature the handling of goods in warehouses and onto railway wagons. The physiotherapy films concentrate on massage and exercises. The sports films cover golf, rugby, soccer, and a very wide range of athlectics. It is believed that some footage from the 1948 Olympic games is included. Anderson took a serious interest in women’s domestic work and the injuries that could result from it. His films feature ironing, cooking, cleaning and the movement and use of solid fuel.
