Description
Library Services Scotland was formed in the mid 1980’s. Before that, there were various stand alone libraries: the film library, the recorded programmes library, the music library, the gramophone library, and the registry founded in 1923. It holds radio programmes from the 1920’s onward, TV programmes from the 1950’s onwards and covers the output of BBC Scotland as the Scottish Home Service, Radio Scotland, Radio Nan Eilean (now Radio Nan Gaidheal), BBC 1 Scotland, BBC2 Scotland, BBC Alba, and programmes produced in Scotland for the Network.

Conservation policy
BBC Scotland archive policy provides a framework for selecting a representative sample of output in tandem with Central BBC policy.
Since 2007 all BBC Scotland completed programmes have been retained.
