THE BOX (FORMERLY SOUTH WEST FILM AND TELEVISION ARCHIVE)

Description

The Box now holds the collections from the South West Film and Television Archive (founded in 1993).

Its holdings are from 1898 to the present day and its core collections are the Television South West Film and Video Library (which includes all Channel 3 material for the area from 1961 to 1992) and the BBC South West Film Collection (dating from 1961 onward). In addition to the core collections the Archive also holds many other amateur and professional collections. The Archive also holds support material for the collection. The Archive is committed to providing access to the collections it safeguards.

The Archive is a member of the Film Archives UK.

Video: The holdings comprise advertising (5%), documentary (30%), news and current affairs (50%) and science and education (15%).Advertising, documentary, news and current affairs, science and education.
Video components: VHS Video, S-VHS Video, 8mm Video, hi-8, hi-band U-Matic, lo-band U-Matic, Beta/Beta-SP, 1-inch Video, 2-inch Video.
Film: The holdings comprise documentary (40%), news and current affairs (50%) and science and education (10%). 65% colour film, 35% black and white film. Documentary, news and current affairs, science and education.
Film components: 16mm, 35mm, positive film, negative film, fine grain print.

Notes

There is a continuing programme of transfer of all card/manual index to computer. Material from 1976-1984 is currently being reviewed and indexed. 1961-1976 is card indexed. 1984-1992 is computer indexed.

Programme information files held including issue sheets, dope sheets, transcripts, shooting scripts, press clippings, contracts etc. Files are still being catalogued.
