RTE TELEVISION ARCHIVES

Description

RTÉ Television Libraries and Archives hold material produced or commissioned from 1961 to the present day. This footage contains news, current affairs, programmes in the Irish language, documentaries, features, entertainment, sport, drama, art, literature, music and a wide variety of stock shot material.

As well as broadcast archives RTÉ has over the years acquired Irish interest newsreels dating from c1913. A growing number of smaller film and video collections are deposited with RTÉ Television Libraries and Archives for preservation, restoration and digitisation.

Video/Film

Video holdings: 2" and 1" formats all now transferred to to Digital Beta as well as a selection of film material. Remaining film and SP tapes and legacy formats are in the process of transfer to Digital Beta as part of the ongoing Archive digitisation project.
Film holdings: News inserts, programme selection on 16mm film (black and white positives and negatives 1962-1974 and colour print and reversal 1974-1985). Archive film of Irish interest from c 1913 on 35mm and 16mm.
