The Local Studies Library collects material relating to the London Borough, the former County Boroughs of East and West Ham, and Essex and London materials where relevant. The Library was opened in Stratford Reference Library in 1978.

Video: 50 reels/cassettes. Films transferred from film to video, e.g. Torchlight Triumphant (1940), a locally made film about the local area and school life during the Second World War. Approximately 50 videos, including material produced by the London Docklands Development Corporation, and local organisations, including The Trader’s Tale (1990) which portrays life at Stratford Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market before its move in 1991.Amateur, documentary.
Video components: VHS Video.
Film: 7 cans. The collection of films includes Building of Plashet School (1952); West Ham United Football Club at First Cup Final at Wembley (1923).
Film components: 9.5mm, 16mm, positive film, negative film.

Conservation policy
A number of films have been transferred from nitrate stock onto video in recent years.
