MUSIC PRESERVED

Description
Formerly the Music Performance Research Centre, Music Preserved was set up to preserve sound documents of public performances for future generations, and to preserve, as far as possible, the integrity of the performances. It holds over 1,500 archive recordings of live performances, interviews both audio and video, from the 1930s to the present day, available at the Barbican Centre, London, or elsewhere by arrangement. There are on-site archive recordings made by the MPRC at concert halls and opera houses, such as the Barbican Centre, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Opera House. Off-air recordings of public performances, donated to the MPRC, dating from 1934 to the present day. The MPRC archive includes historic archive recordings that to the best of the MPRc’s knowledge cannot be heard elsewhere. It holds recorded conversations with international conductors, soloists, singers and orchestral musicians and video archive recordings made from 1951 onwards, including a collection provided by the BBC Libraries and Archives Division.
