The collection has been accumulated by various sections of Leicestershire Museums, Arts & Records Service. The majority has been transferred to the Record Office section since c.1968. The technology section at the Snibston Discovery Park collects and copies film for its own holdings.

Video: 60 hours. The video collection consists of approximately 60 hours of footage, and includes the Leicestershire Collection of local videos.Advertising, amateur, documentary, news and current affairs, science and education.
Video components: VHS Video.
Film: 150 cans. The Archive holds approximately 150 cans of film covering topics from royal events and celebrations to museum activities such as taxidermy. Material of general and local interest. A small amount of fiction. Symington of Market Harborough factory films, c.1899, 1921-1977. Various pageants, royal events, coronation, funeral, royal visit films 1932-1954, including film of Leicestershire Yeomanry in camp 1937-1938. Civil Defence strips and ten films by Religious Films Ltd. London British Coal instructional films transferred to Record Office from Snibston, 1991. 100% black and white film, 40% nitrate film. Advertising, amateur, documentary, feature films, news and current affairs, science and education, N.C.B. instructional films.
Film components: 9.5mm, 16mm, 35mm, positive film, negative film.
