BALINESE TELEVISION PROJECT ARCHIVE

Description
This video collection is a comprehensive archive of programmes on Balinese culture, broadcast on Indonesian state television (TVRI) since September 1990. The project is a collaborative venture between STSI (the Indonesian Academy of Performing Arts) and SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies). The project has some 750 hours of theatre and dance as well as 300 hours on general culture and ethnographic topics among other subjects. Sales: 155 hours is available with transcriptions on CD-ROM in MPEG1 for purchase as three sets. Price on application. Set 1: Classical Balinese Theatre and Dance (49 hours). Set 2: Modern Balinese/Indonesian Theatre and Culture (62 hours). Set 3: Modern Indonesian Society, Culture and Economy (43 hours). Sale is subject to copyright restrictions. The materials are strictly for research and teaching purposes only.

Access
26 hours of particularly valuable and useful materials has been remastered in MPEG2 on DVD in both PAL and NTSC. Copies are available at a charge for educational institutions.

Notes
Computerised database with a comprehensive subject index and brief resumes of each programme is currently being organised. This will be available on a website. About two-thirds of the collection has been transcribed to computer disc.
Other information
At www.bajra.org, there is a catalogue of the 155 hours holdings with resumes in Indonesian. There is also a catalogue of 26 hours of materials on music and dance on DVD. Background information on the various music and dance pieces by leading Balinese experts is also freely available online, together with translations of the spoken text of the full 26 hours of materials.
