INSTITUTE OF AMATEUR CINEMATOGRAPHERS - IAC LIBRARY
- Description
- IAC - The Film & Video Institute represents amateur movie makers, and most of the video clubs, in the UK. We hold national and regional competitions / film festivals (that attract many international entries), seminars, etc. Members get a bi-monthly glossy magazine (Film & Video Maker) along with regional magazines, low-cost music copyright licences, access to both technical and general web forums and several other services. We represent the UK on the international scene, especially with UNICA. We have a very large archive of amateur films (covering most of our 75 year history), stored at the East Anglian Film Archive in Norwich, and available on request.
The Library includes major award winning titles from the IAC International Competition, The Ten Best Competition, the BAVA Competition, Film Making, North v South, Guernsey Lily and other competitions. It is growing every year.
Entertaining and informative programmes of films and videos may be hired by individuals or clubs in the U.K., and the library is also a valuable source of information for students
Of the hundreds of ciné films in the library many have already been transferred to tape and the Institute has identified a prioritised list of films for transfer onto digital BetaCam and further to SVHS and VHS for working copies. Ciné films can still be hired by arrangement, subject to their condition.
Cataloguing such a massive collection is no easy task and the latest listing is a tribute to the people who sweated blood over its preparation. But for users it offers an insight to the treasure trove. Here is a chance to enjoy the world’s best amateur work, to study how the winners do it and to learn their techniques. - Artefact description
