Description
Yorkshire Television started broadcasting programmes on the ITV network and locally in the Yorkshire, Humberside, North Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire area in July 1968. The Library contains all transmitted programmes and regional news items produced since its inception. The complete holdings amount to over 60,000 film cans and tape spools which increase according to the number of programmes YTV transmits each year. Production departments cover all subject areas (documentaries, drama, education, light entertainment, science, sport, etc.) including First Tuesday, Whicker’s World, Jimmy’s, Darling Buds of May, How We Used to Live, Emmerdale, New Statesman, Heartbeat, Rising Damp, 3D and Touch of Frost.

Access available. By arrangement only. Staff are available to assist. Access for disabled. But limited facilities for disabled.Access to the collection is available to all researchers and enquirers. Initial enquiries should be made by telephone.

Viewing on premises. Viewing off premises. Duplicating. Sales. Viewing copies of requested material on VHS, U-matic or 16mm can be quickly dispatched to any destination. Master material is never released - dupe copies can be made promptly on site.

Programme as Transmitted sheets for all programmes. Calendar news running orders and scripts on microfiche from 1968 to date. AVSTAR news computer terminal directly linked to the newsroom providing news information.
Conservation policy
Insert material is reviewed after six months (where a complete copy of the programme exists). Otherwise, master copies of all transmitted material are retained permanently. All original 2" programmes have been transferred to a recent format and include a technical report. The original 2" tapes are deposited with the National Film and Television Archive.
