Description
Pathe’s Animated Gazette: started regular bi-weekly publication in London in February 1910. The length of the newsreel at the time was about 300 feet and by 1914 90 copies were being printed. In 1914 up to the start of World War I a daily edition was issued. In the following years, the length and number of copies increased gradually and for several years two newsreels were published weekly, a long one of 600-700 feet and a short one of 300 feet.

Pathe Super Sound Gazette, and Pathe Gazette: with the advent of sound in 1930, Pathé had to publish the above three newsreels to cover the period when cinemas were changing from silent to sound projectors. After some years, the first two were discontinued. Pathe Gazette continued until the end of 1945.

Pathe News: this was the new title given to the Pathe newsreel from newsreel number 1, 1946. In 1960 Pathe News produced its first reels in colour. The last release of the newsreel was no. 70-17, 26 February 1970.

Pathe Pictorial: first released in March 1918 this cinemagazine continued in production until 27 March 1969.

Eve’s Film Review: this news magazine for women began in 1921 and continued until 1933.

Pathetone Weekly: this international production was first released weekly in 1930 with a view to incorporating all the semi-news events which passed into the Pathé organisation and its news exchanges around the world. It ceased production in 1941.
Astra Gazette: a digest of mainly Pathe Pictorial material that was compiled for the RAF. Twelve Gazettes were issued.

British Pathé represents the Reuters historical collection (qv separate entry), which includes more than 120,000 items from Reuters-owned news agencies Gaumont Graphic (1910-1932), Empire News Bulletin (1926-1930), British Paramount (1931-1957), and Gaumont British (1934-1959), as well as Visnews content from 1957 to the end of 1979. All footage can be viewed on the British Pathé website.
