Information Service
At the heart of the BUFVC’s work is a specialist Information Service and Library. It deals with enquiries concerning the availability, use or production of audio-visual material. Our experienced staff draw on a reference library holding nearly 5000 books, some 245 periodicals and newsletters, and current catalogues from more than 1000 British and overseas distributors of audio-visual materials.
Special Collections
Aside from its library collection of books, journals and catalogues, the BUFVC holds a number of unique book and documentation collections of great value in moving image history and research.
Off-Air Recording Back-up Service
Any educational institution holding an Educational Recording Agency licence for off-air recording can take advantage of the BUFVC’s television recording back-up service, which retains some 44,000 hours per year of UK television for post-transmission access.
Distribution
Videotapes, video discs, films and CD-ROMs distributed by the BUFVC, covering a wide range of academic disciplines. Key titles include OBEDIENCE, THE ORIGINS OF SCIENTIFIC CINEMATOGRAPHY and THE TRIALS OF ALGER HISS.
Facilities
16mm film and video research facilities are available. The BUFVC seminar room is also available for bookings.
Consultancy
The BUFVC calls upon a wide range of experts to assist in answering all types of questions concerning moving images and research.
